Pupils at Harrogate Ladies’ College are celebrating their best percentage of top GCSE grades in four years.
Half of all grades awarded were at grades 9-7, the highest proportion recorded by the school since 2023.
Pupils performed particularly strongly in STEM subjects, with 80 per cent of grades in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Further Maths awarded at grades 9-7.
Languages also produced strong results, with 70 per cent of grades at 9-7 and all German grades falling within the top three grades.
The school said more than 70 per cent of pupils also outperformed their baseline predicted grades.
Principal Joanna Fox said:
“Our pupils have worked hard and shown dedication and commitment to achieve these fantastic results.
“As a largely non-selective school, we are incredibly proud of the progress our pupils make. Their achievements reflect their hard work, alongside the expertise, commitment and dedication of our outstanding teachers.
“These pupils will be part of history as they join the first ever Duchy College Sixth Form cohort in September, when we welcome boys into our senior school.
“The new Sixth Form Centre, alongside the wider range of opportunities available to pupils, will give our Sixth Form pupils the space and independence to prepare for life beyond school.”
Among those celebrating was Scarlett Wright, who achieved multiple grade 9s and an average of two grades higher than her predicted baseline results.
She said:
“Achieving these results is an amazing feeling.
“I am so thankful for my teachers, who have provided incredible support and guidance over the past two years.
“To earn multiple 9s is fantastic, but I feel like the progress I have made is just as important.
“I have worked so hard to achieve these results and can’t wait to begin Sixth Form here in September.”
Jenny Chan achieved an average of three grades higher than her predicted baseline results and will also join the Duchy College Sixth Form in September.
She said:
“I’m so happy with my results and really proud of what I’ve achieved.
“The support from my teachers and friends has helped me stay motivated and keep pushing myself.
“It’s brilliant to see all the hard work pay off and I’m especially pleased with the grades I’ve earned.
“I’ve loved my time at the school so far, and I’m really looking forward to coming back in September for Sixth Form.”
Ellie Douglas achieved an average of two grades higher than predicted, while Cheryl Chen earned eight grade 9s in subjects including English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Further Maths.
The results come ahead of the school’s transition to Duchy College, with boys joining Year 7 and Year 12 from September as part of a phased move towards becoming fully co-educational.
