Harrogate man to tackle London Marathon for hospice that cared for grandad

Ben Bradley will run the 2027 London Marathon.

A 25-year-old NHS worker is set to take on the London Marathon in memory of his grandad while raising money for Saint Michael's Hospice.

Ben Bradley will run the 2027 London Marathon on Sunday 25th April to support the Harrogate hospice, which cared for his grandad before his death from Motor Neurone Disease (MND) five years ago.

Ben is currently balancing his marathon training alongside working full-time for the NHS.

His grandad spent time at Saint Michael's Hospice during his illness, with Ben praising the care and support provided to both him and his family.

Ben said:

“Throughout my Grandad’s illness, he spent time at Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate.

“The care, compassion, and dignity he was shown were nothing short of incredible.

“Just as importantly, the staff were there for our family, offering comfort, reassurance, and support during one of the hardest times of our lives.

“Saint Michael’s Hospice became a place of peace and kindness when we needed it most and we will always be grateful for everything they did.”

Ben said every mile of the 26.2-mile challenge will be completed in memory of his grandad and in recognition of the care he received.

He added:

“Every mile I run will be in memory of my Grandad and in honour of the amazing care he received.

“I also hope to ensure that other families facing the unimaginable can receive the same outstanding support, compassion, and dignity that meant so much to us.”

Saint Michael's provides specialist care and support for people affected by terminal illness and their families, with its services provided free of charge.

The charity needs to raise £7million each year to provide its range of services.

Ben's fundraising campaign has already raised £380, plus Gift Aid, towards the hospice.

Donations can be made through Ben's JustGiving fundraising page.
