Next phase of £15 million Yorkshire Water works begins in Pannal

Yorkshire Water is upgrading wastewater infrastructure in and around Pannal.

Yorkshire Water has begun the next phase of a £15million upgrade to wastewater infrastructure in and around Pannal.

The project is designed to increase capacity in the network and support approved housing developments in the Harrogate area.

Contractors Mott MacDonald Bentley are already constructing a wastewater pumping station at Harlow Carr Gardens, a storage tank at Fulwith Mill Lane and around 5km of new sewer pipework.

Work on the new pipework is currently taking place on Lady Lane.

The next phase will see a second pumping station and storage tank constructed to provide further capacity and pressure relief within the network.

Work has now begun on the pumping station off Spring Lane and is expected to be completed in February 2027.

Access to the site will be through a new entrance opposite the junction of Spring Lane and Westminster Drive, with temporary traffic lights in place while the entrance is constructed.

Preliminary work has also started on a second storage tank behind Pannal Green.

Yorkshire Water said the two storage tanks will provide more than 2,000 cubic metres of additional capacity, allowing the network to hold up to two million litres of excess wastewater and rainwater.

Pamela Ajayi, Project Manager at Yorkshire Water, said:

“We’re making good progress with the project, which is incredibly important for the Harrogate area’s resilience as it grows.

“As we continue, we’ll keep doing everything we can to minimise disruption. Thank you to everyone for their ongoing patience and understanding.”

The Harrogate project forms part of Yorkshire Water's £8.3billion improvement programme, which will see investment in infrastructure, customer experience and the environment.
