Ripon Grammar School girls and boys crowned cricket champions

Ripon Grammar School cricketers have been crowned county champions.

Girls' and boys' cricket teams at Ripon Grammar School have been crowned county champions.

The girls made school history by becoming the first girls' team to win a cricket trophy for Ripon Grammar, beating Rossett School by three wickets in the final.

Rossett were bowled out for 97 thanks to an impressive team bowling performance led by Rosie Forsythe (3-18), with Sophie Pettie and Orla Metcalfe both taking two wickets.

In reply, Phoebe Dilworth top-scored with 29 before Florence Lund guided Ripon to victory with an unbeaten innings as they reached 99-6 with eight balls to spare.

A spokesperson for Ripon Grammar School said:

"The triumph is a landmark moment for girls' cricket at Ripon Grammar School and reflects the team's hard work, determination and outstanding spirit throughout the season."

The Under-14 boys completed the double with a convincing 39-run victory over St Aidan's.

Captain Oliver Moorcroft top-scored with an unbeaten 50 as Ripon posted 161-2 before also taking two wickets as St Aidan's were dismissed for 122.

The success capped an impressive season for cricket at Ripon Grammar.

The Under-15 boys reached the North Yorkshire Schools final, narrowly losing by just two runs to Tadcaster Grammar School, while the Under-15 girls reached the Yorkshire finals of the Barclays Knight-Stokes State School Cup, finishing just three games short of a place at Lord's.

The school's Year 7 team also reached the semi-finals of the North Yorkshire Schools competition.
