Rossett School's sponsored walk raises £5,700 for charity

Rossett School pupils on their sponsored walk.

Students at Rossett School have raised more than £5,700 after taking part in the school's annual sponsored walk.

Around 480 students from Years 7 to 10 completed the 12km walk on Monday, joined by staff, volunteers and supporters for one of the highlights of the school's calendar.

This year's fundraising will support Harrogate charity The Sibling Group, which was founded by former Rossett School students and provides friendship, support and activities for children who have a sibling with additional needs.

The remaining funds will go towards the school's appeal to purchase a new minibus, helping provide greater access to educational visits, sports fixtures and extracurricular activities.

Students were praised for their enthusiasm, determination and behaviour throughout the walk, with many members of the public commenting on their positive attitude and encouragement of one another.

Mark Bulmer, Assistant Headteacher and event organiser, said:

"We are incredibly proud of our students and the way they embraced this year's Sponsored Walk.

"What makes this event so special isn't just the money raised, it's seeing hundreds of young people supporting one another every step of the way.

"They showed exceptional resilience, kindness and determination throughout the day and were fantastic ambassadors for the school.

"Raising more than £5,700 for two important causes is an outstanding achievement, and the total continues to grow as sponsorship is still being collected.

"The support from families, colleagues and the wider community has been wonderful."

After completing the walk, students returned to school for a Summer Fair featuring a range of stalls and activities, raising even more money for The Sibling Group and the school's minibus appeal.

Sponsorship is still being collected, with Rossett School hoping the final fundraising total will continue to rise over the coming weeks.
