Marathon runners raise £16,000 for Harrogate police charity

A cheque for £16,618 presented to the Police Treatment Centre (PTC).

More than £16,000 has been donated to the Police Treatment Centre in Harrogate after a team of runners completed the New York Marathon.

Bryn Hughes MBE and his team raised £16,618 for the Police Treatment Centre (PTC) and the PC Nicola Hughes Trust, with the cheque presented during a visit to the Harrogate centre this week.

The fundraising was praised by Patrick Cairns, Chief Executive of the Police Treatment Centre, who paid tribute to Bryn's ongoing commitment to supporting police charities.

He said:

"Everyone in UK policing knows Bryn and is in awe of his ongoing fundraising events for police charities, and we were humbled to be included as one of the beneficiary charities on this occasion.

"Everyone at the PTC is in awe of Bryn, and we were proud to partner with him, and I think it safe to say that Nicola would be proud of how he has turned the worst tragedy that any parent can suffer, into a positive, in his ongoing fundraising efforts to benefit others in Nicola's memory.

"Bryn, you are an absolute star, and thank you for your ongoing work for police charities."

A spokesperson for PC Nicola Hughes Trust said:

"Bryn and one of our trustees, Mark, were treated to a full tour of the centre and made to feel most welcome.

"We saw at first hand some of the excellent work the centre carries out looking after so many officers."

The Police Treatment Centre provides specialist treatment and rehabilitation to serving and retired police officers, helping them recover from both physical and psychological injuries.
