Harrogate Town defender Cathal Heffernan has joined Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old centre back signed for Town in January 2026 and made 24 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.
Heffernan would Captain the club for the first time in his last appearance, during the 2-2National League draw with Barrow on 22nd August.
Manager Simon Weaver said:
“He was the ultimate young professional and has been since the day he joined.
“The deal was done in the right way, Neil Harris gave me a call and our valuation was met, it’s a good club for Cathal to go to at a good level.
“We firmly believe we are identifying and recruiting young talent that can really develop here and our challenge is to continue finding these players, while being a winning team in the process.”
Harrogate Town AFC thanked Heffernan for his efforts at the club and wished him all the best for the future.
