A motorist caught driving at 131mph on a North Yorkshire dual carriageway has been ordered to pay £1,551 at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court.
The Audi TT was recorded by a North Yorkshire Police safety camera vehicle on the A64 at Barton-le-Willows, between York and Malton, on 20th June.
The road has a 70mph speed limit and, according to police, has been the site of a significant number of previous collisions.
The driver pleaded guilty to speeding and was given six penalty points, alongside fines and costs totalling £1,551.
Richard Fletcher, from North Yorkshire Police, said:
“Speed limits are set for a reason and exceeding them is illegal.
"We expect motorists to drive responsibly and resist driving at extreme speeds - the impact of doing so can be devastating.”
