Harrogate ticketless parking rollout scheduled for autumn

New ticketless parking machines are set to be installed in council-run car parks across Harrogate and Ripon this autumn.

North Yorkshire Council is replacing more than 400 machines across the county as the existing equipment reaches the end of its operational life.

The Harrogate and Ripon area rollout is scheduled to take place during October and November.

Drivers will be required to enter their vehicle registration number, select how long they wish to park and pay by cash or card.

Payment through a parking app will also remain available where offered.

No paper ticket will be issued, meaning motorists will not need to display anything inside their vehicles.

Cash payments will continue to be accepted and no automatic number plate recognition cameras will be introduced as part of the changes.

Civil enforcement officers will instead use handheld devices to check whether a valid parking session has been registered against each vehicle’s number plate.

North Yorkshire Council said the ticketless system was intended to improve reliability, reduce maintenance and paper use, and provide a more efficient parking service.

Signs at car parks will also be updated with instructions, tariffs and information specific to each location.

Ripon Spa councillor Jackie Crozier said:

“I know changes to parking can cause a bit of confusion, so I’ll share further information as the rollout gets closer.”
