Stephen Mangan and Fearne Cotton expected at Brimham Rocks

Stephen Mangan is set to be joined by Fearne Cotton at Brimham Rocks

One of the area's most iconic landmarks is taking centre stage this week as Sky Arts' "Landscape Artist of the Year" comes to Brimham Rocks.

The popular television competition is filming at the National Trust site over the next couple of days, with members of the public invited to watch the action unfold, starting today (25th June).

The series sees talented artists from across the UK given just four hours to capture some of Britain's most spectacular landscapes, with the winner going on to receive a prestigious £10,000 commission for the National Trust's permanent collection.

Jenni Shepherd, Senior Communications and Marketing Officer for Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal and Brimham Rocks, says excitement is building now the scene is set to welcome the artists and star presenters.

Footage and photographs of filming taking place at Whitby appeared online earlier this week, and now presenter Stephen Mangan will be joined by broadcaster Fearne Cotton as part of the show's refreshed format.

Speaking about the filming at Brimham Rocks, Jenni says local people are encouraged to come along and soak up the atmosphere:

"They love an audience and we would love to have people from our local community coming up to watch and see all the exciting stuff happening.

We do have limited parking on site. We'll do our best to get people parked, but if not, you'll be able to tune in and watch it this winter."

Brimham Rocks is one of several stunning locations being featured in the new series, which has introduced a revised competition format with artists returning week after week to tackle landscapes across the UK before one is crowned champion.

The episode filmed in Nidderdale is expected to be broadcast on Sky Arts this winter.
