Police warning after counterfeit cash scam in Knaresborough

CCTV appeal: The man police believe will help with their investigation.

Police are warning people selling items online to be vigilant following a counterfeit cash scam in Knaresborough.

The victim had advertised an Apple MacBook for sale on social media before agreeing a price of £340 with a prospective buyer.

An exchange was arranged, but the seller later discovered that the notes they had received were counterfeit.

North Yorkshire Police has released an image of a man officers believe may be able to assist with their enquiries and would like to speak to him.

Officers have also warned people selling items to be vigilant, saying this is not the only incident involving a similar fraudulent note scam.

The scam involves suspects negotiating a price for items advertised for sale before using counterfeit notes to pay for them.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police and quote reference 12260089548.
