Ripon teenager given all-clear after stage 4 cancer treatment

A Ripon teenager who won a Your Harrogate Local Hero award has been given the all-clear following treatment for stage 4 cancer.

Caiden Brown and his family received the news they had been hoping for this week, nine months after he was first admitted to York Hospital.

Caiden was just 15 when he was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of mouth cancer.

His mum has now revealed that his latest scan shows no sign of cancer following treatment.

She said:

“Nine months ago today, our world was turned upside down. Caiden was admitted to York Hospital, and we were told it was highly likely he had cancer.

“A week later, our worst fears were confirmed when he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

“Today, we received the news we have dreamed of hearing. His treatment has worked, and his scan shows no sign of cancer!"

She added:

“There are no words to describe the relief, joy, and gratitude we feel right now.

“This journey has been the hardest thing our family has ever faced, but through it all, Caiden has shown a strength, courage, and resilience beyond his years.

“Watching him face every appointment, every treatment, and every challenge with such bravery has left us in complete awe. We couldn't be prouder of him.”

Caiden, a keen footballer and cricketer, received widespread support from the local community following his diagnosis.

A fundraising campaign was launched to support Caiden and his family, attracting hundreds of donations.

His courage was also recognised at the Your Harrogate Local Hero Awards 2026, where he was named winner of the Bravery Award.

Thanking those who have supported the family throughout Caiden's treatment, his mum added:

“To everyone who has supported us, thought of us, and stood by our side—thank you. We will never be able to put into words how much it has meant.

“Nothing will stop you now, Caiden. We love you more than words could ever say.”
