Ripon Grammar School are raising money to support a Ripon boy’s rehabilitation after an accident at home left him paralysed.
Ripon Grammar School back fundraising campaign to help teen walk again Ripon Grammar School has backed a fundraising campaign to help one of its pupils walk again after an accident at home left him paralysed. 15-year-old Alan Nowicka fell from a small height on 9th December 2023 whilst doing his daily exercise. Unfortunately he suffered a spine fracture with dislocation at T10-11 level, resulting in a spinal cord injury. Despite spinal surgery, the teenager has been left paralysed with a loss of feeling from the waist down and a lack of control over his physiological needs. Alan requires intensive rehabilitation as soon as possible - an expensive process that will give him a chance to walk again. And Ripon Grammar School, where Alan is a pupil, are supporting the campaign by hosting a non-uniform day and donating any money raised towards the cause. In a letter to parents and guardians, headmaster Jonathan Webb said:
"Unfortunately Alan suffered a spinal injury before Christmas for which he requires intensive neurorehabilitation to recover movement. "His family are hoping to access additional support beyond what the NHS can offer and need to raise over £20,000 for this. "If you feel able to support Alan’s rehabilitation please consider a suggested donation of £2 or more by visiting Parent Pay in the usual way. "We are so looking forward to welcoming Alan back to our RGS community and do hope that with your help he can make a strong recovery."[caption id="attachment_96252" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] 15-year-old Alan suffered an accident at home in December.[/caption] Speaking on social media about the support Alan has received, his mum, Kamila, said:
“We are absolutely blown away by your kind messages, support and your donations big and small. Times are hard and we appreciate your help. “It goes without saying that we would never thought we will be in this situation, asking people for money, but we need to give Alan the care and rehabilitation that he needs right now. “I have an awful lot to deal with behind the scenes therefore I may not reply to your messages straight away, but please be assured that every kind word means a world to me and is greatly appreciated.”The fundraising campaign has been able to raise £13,000 towards its £20,000 target.
