A Harrogate charity has launched a new appeal to help people experiencing homelessness take the next step towards employment.
Harrogate Homeless Project (HHP) has unveiled its Summer 2026 Appeal, with funds raised going towards a dedicated employability worker who will provide one-to-one support for people looking to find work.
The charity says while providing safe accommodation and support is vital, helping people into sustainable employment is often the key to long-term independence.
Nicola Ridgway, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Harrogate Homeless Project, said:
"Providing safety and stability is only the beginning.
"The next crucial step is helping people rebuild their independence – and employment is central to that."
The appeal follows the success of HHP's Summer Appeal last year, which helped improve facilities at the charity's hostel and create a safe environment for people recovering from homelessness.
However, HHP says many people face significant challenges when trying to enter the workplace, including poor mental health, addiction, criminal records, a lack of fixed address and limited experience with job applications.
The charity also says some people simply cannot afford essential items such as interview clothing or travel costs.
To help overcome these barriers, HHP hopes to fund a dedicated job coach who will work directly with individuals to support them into employment.
The role would include help with CV writing, job applications, interview preparation, training opportunities and securing practical support such as travel expenses and workwear.
According to the charity, the aim is to help people gain confidence, secure employment and move towards independent living.
Nicola added:
"Employment is about more than income. It's about dignity, stability and the chance to build a future.
"With the community's support, we can give people the tools they need to move on from homelessness for good."
Harrogate Homeless Project is encouraging residents and businesses to support the appeal through one-off or regular donations.
The charity says £25 could help cover travel costs, while £75 could support CV writing, job searching and interview practice.
Larger donations would help fund specialist employability sessions and contribute towards sustaining the new role.
