The Knaresborough Inn has pledged its continued support to Knaresborough Celtic Grassroots FC, providing a £2,000 sponsorship for the 2026/27 season.
The sponsorship marks the third consecutive year that The Knaresborough Inn has backed the community football club, helping support its growing number of players and teams.
Knaresborough Celtic currently has around 250 members, ranging from Under-7s through to Under-18s, alongside Young Footballers and Open Age teams.
The club is also celebrating the introduction of a league-registered Under-7 girls team for the 2026/27 season, as interest in girls’ football at the club continues to grow.
However, the club's success has also brought new challenges. With numbers continuing to increase, Knaresborough Celtic has now outgrown its existing training facilities and is actively looking for additional spaces where its teams can train.
Run entirely by volunteers, the club relies on membership fees, fundraising and sponsorship to operate. Club officials say ongoing support from local businesses such as The Knaresborough Inn is vital, particularly as the costs of running a grassroots club of Celtic's size continue to increase.
Speaking to Your Harrogate at The Knaresborough Inn, Club President Ramsay Beattie said:
"We founded the club in 1995. The youngsters now are in their 40s.
"We started young footballers and they now move into under 7s, and we've grown to nearly 300 players at the club.
"My life, apart from my wife and family, is Knaresborough Celtic"
The club is particularly excited about the continued growth of girls’ football, with the new Under-7 girls team joining the club's growing number of female players for the 2026/27 season.
Club Chairman, Jenny Goody, said:
"We're really excited to announce that we've got our first under 7s girls team registered with the league this season and we're looking for more players to come through from the young footballers side.
"If you've got a daughter really keen on football, please do get in touch. We're very very keen to see you.
"Our open age teams are looking for managers, goalkeepers, defenders, so please do join in. Come and see if you can join Celtic and play some great football."
With around 250 members and an entirely volunteer-led operation, Knaresborough Celtic continues to provide football opportunities for children, young people and adults across the local community.
The club says partnerships with local businesses such as The Knaresborough Inn are an important part of making that possible and helping the club continue to grow.
Community and Charity Champion at the Knaresborough Inn, Ryanna Coleman, said:
"My role is reaching out, making sure we're part of the local community. We host events throughout the year to make sure we're not just a pub on the edge of town, we're a part of the community.
"Football, especially for the young ones, gives people an opportunity to run around, play and have fun. Everybody needs that in their life."
