Duchy College in Harrogate has planted a commemorative oak tree gifted by King Charles III during his visit to the school in May.
The tree is one of just 80 being presented ahead of the King’s 80th birthday in November 2028.
His visit marked the first time the school had welcomed a reigning monarch and came as it began a new chapter as Duchy College.

Principal Joanna Fox said:
“We are delighted to have been gifted this oak tree, which will take pride of place in our grounds and provide a lasting reminder of what was a very special occasion.
“His Majesty’s visit came at a particularly significant time in our school’s history, as we were embarking upon an exciting new chapter as Duchy College.
“The tree also carries a wonderful sense of history and symbolism, having been planted in the first year of Duchy College. It will grow and flourish alongside generations of pupils, becoming a lasting part of our school community.
“There was a tremendous sense of pride among the staff and pupils involved in His Majesty’s visit. It was a privilege to welcome him to our school and a moment I know will be remembered fondly by everyone who had the opportunity to be part of it.”
During the visit, the King spoke with prefects about balancing A Level studies with extra-curricular activities.

He also remarked on the beauty of the school’s setting, admitting he had not fully appreciated its location within Harrogate.
The College Chapel Choir performed With A Voice of Singing and the Sevenfold Amen, while Year 6 pupils sang songs from their production of Looking Good, Robin Hood, which the King was said to have “thoroughly enjoyed”.
Alastair Martin CVO, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Council at the Duchy of Lancaster, said:
“The planting of this oak is a fitting way to mark what was a very special day for Duchy College earlier this year.
“As the school begins an exciting new chapter, we hope the tree will grow alongside the school and provide a lasting reminder of His Majesty’s visit for generations to come.”
