More than £15,000 has been raised for two Harrogate charities following a night sleeping outdoors at Harrogate Rugby Club.
Businesses and residents took part in the Big Harrogate Sleepout at the Apollo Capital Stadium on Rudding Lane on Thursday 1st October.
The event supported Saint Michael’s Hospice and Harrogate Homeless Project, which provide care and support for people across the district.
Returning for its third year, the sleepout was organised by Harrogate Spring Water alongside the two charities, with participants encouraged to raise sponsorship for spending a night under the stars.
In an update published on the rugby club’s website, Michael Cowling said:
“Thanks to all those businesses and people who took part in the recent Big Sleepout event at Harrogate RUFC on Rudding Lane.
“It was a privilege to host such a worthwhile event.
“Hopefully we can grow this event again next year, look out for details over the coming months.”
The fundraiser combined the overnight challenge with an evening of activities, with a hot supper and team quiz included in the programme.
Linsey Trower, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Saint Michael’s Hospice, said:
“Every pound raised will help us continue to provide specialist care when it’s needed most.”
Saint Michael’s supports people affected by terminal illness and their families, both at its hospice and in the community.
Harrogate Homeless Project helps people experiencing homelessness access support and work towards independent living.
Money raised will help both charities continue their work locally.
