Harrogate Town's first girls-only soccer camps prove a hit

Harrogate Town's first-ever girls-only Summer Soccer Camp.

More than 120 girls have taken part in Harrogate Town's first-ever girls-only Summer Soccer Camp.

The club launched the sessions this summer to give girls in school years one to eight a dedicated environment to play football, learn new skills and develop their love of the game.

Following the success of the opening sessions, bookings are now open for the final two camps on Friday 21st and Friday 28th August.

Gareth Jones, Harrogate Town Community Foundation operations manager, said:

“We're very passionate about growing the girls' game across the club and community foundation, so it's brilliant to see so many girls joining us this summer on a Friday.

“After a successful first week, so many have rebooked due to the fun that they had and friends they made.

“We're really invested in providing safe, fun and inclusive spaces to support girls' football, and would like to thank parents for choosing us to do that.”

Coach Tom Overton said the response to the new camps had been “fantastic”.

He said:

“It is a real honour to be involved in our Girls' Soccer Camp.

“The response over the first two weeks has been fantastic, and the number of girls attending is a real testament to the hard work and commitment of both Harrogate Town AFC and the Community Foundation in developing opportunities for girls to play football.

“The players who have attended have been a fantastic group of young people. They arrive full of enthusiasm, with brilliant attitudes and a real willingness to learn, while bringing so much fun and energy to every session.”

The remaining camps will run from 10am until 3pm at St John Fisher High School and are open to girls aged between five and 13.

Places cost £28 per day, or £25 for members of Harrogate Town's Player Pathway.

The club also runs Girls' Pathway sessions every Friday between September and June, giving players the opportunity to continue developing after the summer camps.

Tom added:

“We'd love to see many of the girls from the camp continue their football journey with us.

“Hopefully, over the coming years, we'll see more home-grown players progress through our pathway and go on to represent our Women's Under-23s and First Team.

“That would be a fantastic achievement for the players, the club and the Community Foundation.”
