Harrogate Town have confirmed their second signing of the summer with the arrival of Will McGowan for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old midfielder arrives on a permanent transfer from Gateshead, having spent the last two seasons on loan at Darlington.
In the last campaign, the midfielder scooped up multiple end of season awards including Players, Managers and Fans Player of the Season in an impressive campaign that yielded eight goals and six assists from midfield.
After signing a two-year contract with the club, McGowan said:
“I’m delighted to get this over the line, grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get going.
“This feels like the right step for me now and my career, it’s a step up in level to what I think is a great club and a perfect opportunity for me to prove myself.”
McGowan started his career at Sunderland before moving on to Doncaster Rovers’ Academy.

A move to South Shields in 2021 provided the Newcastle-born midfielder his first regular senior action, before joining Blyth Spartans one year later.
In 2024 Gateshead secured the services of the up-and-coming talent on a three-year contract, quickly sending him on loan to Darlington to further his development.
Head of Player Recruitment Lloyd Kerry said:
“We’re really excited about what Will can bring to the club.
“He’s a really creative player and we think he’ll suit what we’re about, we need to add goals and creative players to the squad, so he ticks a lot of boxes.
“He looks after the ball very well, his set piece deliveries stand out and there’s a lot of exciting attributes to his game, so hopefully he can kick on and become a mainstay in the team.”
Will takes the number 11 at the club and will officially join on 1st July, subject to relevant governing bodies approval.
