Harrogate Sea Cadets win awards at national band competition

Harrogate Sea Cadets competed at the National Band Competition.

Harrogate Sea Cadets have brought home three awards from a prestigious national band competition.

TS Cleopatra’s 11-strong Drum and Bugle Band competed in the Sea Cadets National Band Competition at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich on Saturday (22nd August).

AC Rowlands was named Best Drum Major, while AC Dowling finished second in the Solo Bugler category and third in Solo Drummer.

Only eight bands qualified for the national competition.

It was the first time in 10 years that TS Cleopatra had competed as a standalone unit band, having previously joined forces with other units.

The event also marked the first time any of the current band members had performed at national level.

Bandmaster Sid Lovatt said:

“I’m really proud of the cadets. Their commitment and tenacity were really on show.

“To say it’s a first time for all band members playing at a national level, they all did extremely well and should be very proud of themselves.”

TS Cleopatra meets in Harrogate and welcomes young people aged 10 and above.

Sea Cadets is a national youth charity which helps young people develop skills, confidence and discipline through nautical training and activities.
