Harrogate residents urged to put bins out earlier as hot weather continues

Rubbish and recycling teams continue to work through the heatwave

Residents across the Harrogate district are being urged to put their bins out earlier than usual over the next two days as crews continue working in the hot weather.

North Yorkshire Council says some rubbish and recycling collections may take place earlier than normal this week, particularly in the west of the county, because of the high temperatures.

Although a Met Office amber alert for "extreme heat" no longer covers the Harrogate district, temperatures are still forecast to hit as high as 32 degrees celsius before the weekend.

Households in the former Harrogate Borough area that are due a collection on Thursday (25th June) or Friday (26th June) are being asked to have their bins out by 5.30am.

Residents in all other parts of North Yorkshire should continue to put their waste and recycling out by 6am, as usual.

In a message to residents, the council thanked people for their support while collection crews work through the hot conditions.

The advice is intended to help crews complete their rounds safely while avoiding the hottest parts of the day where possible.
