Harrogate paddling pool to reopen to visitors this weekend

The paddling pool in Valley Gardens in Harrogate.

A paddling pool in the centre of Harrogate is set to reopen to the public this weekend after extensive surveys have ensured that it is able to be enjoyed this summer.

The pool in Valley Gardens did not open as early as hoped to allow checks to be carried out after issues were identified during maintenance.

However, the pool will open on Saturday (June 13) after being fully repainted, and a survey of the drainage system has been carried out.

More extensive investigations and repairs are needed to the padding pools at Bebra Gardens in Knaresborough and Borrage Green in Ripon.

Both pools require the painting to be stripped, and the surface treated, before new coating can be applied. There are no issues with the draining systems.

It is hoped that the situation for both the pools in Knaresborough and Ripon will be resolved by the start of the school summer holidays in mid-July.

North Yorkshire Council’s executive member of highways and transport, Cllr Malcolm Taylor, whose responsibilities include parks and grounds, said:

“We appreciate that local families may be missing being able to use the paddling pools.

“For the safety of the public, the pools haven’t opened yet while we carry out investigations, and we were pleased with the results in Harrogate and can announce that it will be open in time for the weekend.

“The two other pools will open once repairs are carried out. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible, and we will keep the public updated.”
