A senior nurse working at a Harrogate home has marked 10 years’ service and says the experience throughout her time is something she will never forget.
Szilvia Branda-Papai has been working at MHA Berwick Grange for 10 years.
She joined the home in 2016 as a registered nurse in 2016 before developing and progressing to her current role as a senior nurse in 2023.
To mark the occasion Szilvia was presented with a certificate and some gifts by the management team and Szilvia’s colleagues.
MHA Berwick Grange provides residential dementia and nursing dementia care for our 52 residents.
Speaking after the presentation Szilvia said:
“It feels very special to still be here 10 years later. I feel proud of myself and grateful for all the experiences, memories, and people I have met during these years.
“Honestly, when I first started, I did not think I would stay this long. Time went very quickly. There were hard times and very good times as well, but I always felt connected to my job and the residents.
“For nearly 10 years, I have also travelled from Hungary to work here, which shows how committed I am to my role and the residents.
“During the years I covered many holidays, sicknesses, and extra shifts whenever help was needed. I always tried to support my team and be reliable.
“I found out about my role through my interest in elderly care and nursing. I wanted to work somewhere where I could really make a difference in people’s lives, and MHA felt like the right place for me."
Szilvia added:
“The presentation was a lovely surprise. My colleagues organised flowers, presents, prosecco, vouchers, and made me feel very appreciated and emotional. It was such a kind and unforgettable moment for me.
“What kept me here for 10 years is the residents, my colleagues, and the feeling that my job matters.
“I learned a lot about dementia care over the years. In the beginning it was difficult to understand dementia, but with experience and lots of training I became more confident and knowledgeable. I also love helping people, listening to them, and supporting families.
“MHA is a supportive organisation to work for. They provide training, opportunities to learn, and encourage staff to grow. I have met many amazing people here, and teamwork helped us through difficult times.
“My advice for someone wanting to work for MHA would be: be patient, kind, and willing to learn. Working in care is not always easy, but it is very rewarding.
“You need to be a good listener, stay positive, and always look forward, not backwards. If you care about people, you can make a real difference every day.”
