Harrogate golfer claims Royal Birkdale title

Winner: Harrogate golfer Michael Robson.

Harrogate golfer Michael Robson is celebrating another notable amateur success after winning the Royal Birkdale Goblet.

The Oakdale Golf Club member produced rounds of 70 and 71 for a 36-hole total of 141 at Royal Birkdale.

The scratch medal is played from the championship tees, with Robson's two consistent rounds enough to secure the trophy.

Royal Birkdale, in Southport, is one of the best-known courses in British golf and hosted The Open for the 11th time in July.

Robson is from Harrogate and attended King James' School before pursuing his golfing career in the United States.

He joined Wichita State University for the 2025/26 season after previously playing for the University of Northwestern Ohio and Oklahoma City University.

Robson arrived at Wichita State having recorded seven collegiate tournament victories and was named an NAIA Men's Golf All-American in both 2023/24 and 2024/25.

Oakdale Golf Club described his latest victory as a "brilliant achievement" and said Robson continues to "represent Oakdale with distinction".
