Free Harrogate run club grows beyond 100 members

Runners at Harrogate's Byönd Run Club.

A popular free Harrogate running club has grown to more than 100 members.

Byönd Run Club offers inclusive sessions designed to help runners of all abilities improve their fitness, technique and knowledge.

The group holds free sessions every Monday and Sunday, alongside weekly Thursday training at a local 400-metre athletics track.

Its sessions are structured to ensure slower and less experienced runners are not left behind.

Founder and coach Ashley Glen said:

“Every single one of our 100-plus members was once the newbie.

“All it took was a moment to turn up and realise it wasn’t as daunting as they felt it could have been.

“Our run club is designed to be inclusive, to encourage, to help you improve, to be social or as social as you want it to be and to build your running knowledge.”

Members receive a training plan and meeting location ahead of each session.

Ashley added:

“We have created a non-cliquey culture where people can step outside their comfort zone and not be judged.

“You turn up with a plan ahead of time, a meeting place and a desire to improve yourself. You leave empowered, knowing more and maybe even with some new friends.”
