Emergency services were called to the A59 near Harrogate last night (Monday) after smoke was reported coming from a HGV tanker carrying nitric acid.
Fire crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough attended the incident at around 8.52pm and found no signs of fire involving either the vehicle or its tanker.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the smoke was caused by overheated brakes.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to cool the brakes, while police officers attended the scene to assist with traffic management.
The North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue log reads:
“The incident was left with the driver who will seek professional advice to ensure vehicle is safe to drive again.
“All brakes were sufficiently cooled and checked using a thermal imaging camera.”
No injuries were reported.
