Essential gas works get underway in Ripon

A series of road closures and temporary traffic lights will be in place during essential gas mains work in Ripon.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has begun replacing ageing metal pipework with more durable plastic pipes to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply.

The project started yesterday (Monday 24th August) and is expected to continue until the end of November.

Low St Agnesgate is currently closed between High St Agnesgate and Minster Road until Monday 14th September, with temporary traffic lights also planned from Monday 7th September until Friday 18th September.

St Mary’s Gate will close from Monday 7th September, with the closure moving north from Residence Lane towards the junction with Allhallowgate and Priest Lane as work progresses.

It is expected to remain in place until the end of October, although access to St Marygate Car Park will be maintained throughout.

Temporary traffic lights will operate at the junction of Allhallowgate and Priest Lane from Monday 5th October until around Friday 23rd October.

One lane of Stonebridgegate will then close from Monday 19th October, with temporary traffic lights remaining until the project is completed.

Mark Mawhood, Operations Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said:

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.

“However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Ripon.”
