Date confirmed for return of Ripon's Tinsel Tractor Run

Ripon's Tinsel Tractor Run is back in December.

Ripon's Tinsel Tractor Run will return on Saturday 5th December, with organisers aiming to raise £10,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The festive convoy will leave Tates Garden Centre at 3pm before travelling through Ripon and surrounding villages, finishing in Ripon Market Place at around 6:30pm.

Organisers are appealing for local businesses and organisations to support the event through sponsorship or promotional partnerships to help reach this year’s target.

The tractor run began in November 2023 after organisers Brian Chandler and Simon Dickinson discovered they each had a brother-in-law battling bladder cancer.

With just three weeks’ notice, they organised the first event, bringing together 18 tractors and raising £1,640.

In 2024, Colin Houseman joined to help with social media, while Mark Nicholson supported insurance and marshalling through NVTEC. The convoy grew to 35 tractors and raised £2,653.

By 2025, demand had exceeded the Market Place’s capacity of 38 tractors, prompting organisers to seek sponsorship from local businesses. With their support, the event raised £7,022.99.

This year’s route will include stops at Morrisons in Ripon, Bishop Monkton, Roecliffe and Morrisons in Boroughbridge, before continuing through Langthorpe and Skelton and returning to Ripon.

The convoy is expected to pass Ripon Cathedral at around 6:20pm before arriving in the Market Place.

Approximate arrival times, which are subject to change, are:

  • 3:15pm: Ripon Morrisons, departing at 3:30pm
  • 3:50pm: Bishop Monkton
  • 4:20pm: Roecliffe
  • 4:35pm: Boroughbridge Morrisons, departing at 5pm
  • 5:20pm: Slow drive through Langthorpe
  • 5:35pm: Skelton
  • 6pm: Junction with the B6265 at Hewick
  • 6:20pm: Ripon Cathedral
