Changes get underway at Mother Shipton Inn

Works are underway at Mother Shipton Inn in Knaresborough.

Work is underway to transform one of Knaresborough’s best-known pubs ahead of its reopening under new management.

The Mother Shipton Inn, located beside the River Nidd at Low Bridge, is undergoing refurbishment as its new team prepares to give the historic venue a “completely new lease of life.”

The pub is being led by new General Manager Matthew Chapman, who previously managed The Stansfield Arms in Apperley Bridge.

Plans to reopen the Mother Shipton Inn were first revealed last month, with Matthew confirming that the team was aiming to welcome customers back before the end of August.

And the pub has now shared an update as work continues behind the scenes.

The team said:

“You’ve seen the pub before, but what you’re seeing now is just the beginning of its transformation.

“With new management, a fresh vision and a whole lot of work happening behind the scenes, we’re determined to give The Mother Shipton Inn a completely new lease of life.

“This is a fresh start, and we’re so excited to show you what we have planned as all will be revealed very soon!”

The Mother Shipton Inn is a historic pub overlooking the River Nidd and is known for its riverside beer garden.

When announcing his arrival last month, Matthew acknowledged that some customers may have concerns following previous changes at the venue and stressed that his team has no connection to the pub’s previous management.

He said:

“We know trust isn't rebuilt overnight, and we completely understand if some people are hesitant to come back.

“All we'd ask is that you give us the chance to show you what we're about.

“Whether it's stopping in for a coffee after walking the dog, catching up with friends over a pint, enjoying a meal, or simply popping in to see what's changed, we'd love the opportunity to welcome you.”

The new team has also been recruiting for full and part-time positions across both front and back of house as preparations for the reopening continue.
