Yorkshire Water says hosepipe restrictions could be lifted 'within weeks' as sustained rainfall continues to boost water supplies across the region.
The company confirmed that reservoir levels have now risen for 10 consecutive weeks, reaching 84.6 per cent capacity—an increase from 80.5 per cent the previous week. Aquifer levels in Hull have also improved and now stand at 49.4 per cent.
Dave Kaye, director of water and wastewater services at Yorkshire Water, said:
"We’re now confident that we’re moving into a healthy position across our reservoirs, rivers, and groundwater water sources, after seeing further rainfall over the last seven days, and another significant jump in our reservoir levels.
"Restrictions are still in place for the time being, but we are working to lift them as soon as possible, hopefully within the next few weeks.
"In the meantime, we will continue to monitor our resources and manage them carefully."
Yorkshire Water has begun working with the Environment Agency to remove drought permits, which must be withdrawn before any hosepipe ban can officially end.
The company says it will continue monitoring water resources closely as the process moves forward.
