Work to get underway on new playground at North Rigton school

North Rigton CE Primary School is set to install a new playground.

North Rigton CE Primary School has unveiled plans for its new playground, with work set to get underway this summer.

The new playground will be an “inspiring and uplifting space” that will aim to encourage children to be more active and to promote health and wellbeing.

The project follows major investment in the school that saw a newly refurbished Early Years Classroom in November last year, jointly funded by the school and the Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust.

The playground project has been funded by school capital funds alongside support from Friends of North Rigton, fundraising from Dads of North Rigton and a dedicated Justgiving page.

Plans for the new space include an Adventure Trail, Discovery Area and a storage and seating area for quieter play.

The ’discovery space’ will give the school an outdoor learning area that can be used during curriculum lessons.

A spokesperson for North Rigton CE Primary said:

“The installation of physical play equipment will give children dedicated areas and activities to increase skill and fitness levels and encouragement to go on to lead healthy active lives.

“This equipment also allows us to deliver a varied and interesting curriculum, particularly in PE which has been shown to improve focus, self-discipline, and brain and cognitive development.

“The benefits of an improvement in cognitive development also boost self-esteem and wellbeing and impact positively on progress and attainment in learning.”

The school is aiming to unveil the new playground at the start of the next academic year in September.

The spokesperson added:

“Not all of our children like to be physically active all the time.  Some of our children prefer less physical social interactions during time outside.

“Our new seating area offers a quieter space for small groups that is away from the hustle and bustle of the larger physical activity spaces.

“Time would be given for social intercourse, board games, jigsaws and quiet reading.

“This space can also be used for small group learning, directed by an adult.”
