Two men in balaclavas arrested following attempted car theft in Harrogate

Police made two arrests in Harrogate last night.

Two men have been arrested after an attempted car theft on Woodlands Drive in Harrogate last night (Tuesday).

Just before midnight, a neighbour reported seeing two masked men wearing balaclavas trying to break into a parked vehicle on the street.

The suspects fled when police sirens were heard approaching, but officers later stopped a nearby van and discovered a blowtorch and a GPS jammer inside.

A 35-year-old man from Rochdale and a 38-year-old man from Manchester were arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped for theft.

Both remain in custody for questioning.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:

"You are our eyes and ears, and your information is vital in helping us keep North Yorkshire safe.

"If you live in the Woodlands Drive area and have any CCTV or dash-cam footage which may have captured anything suspicious around midnight last night, please get in touch."

Police are appealing for anyone in the Woodlands Drive area who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from around midnight to come forward.
