Tom Gordon reselected as Liberal Democrat candidate for Harrogate

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Tom Gordon.

Tom Gordon has been unanimously reselected by local members of the Liberal Democrats as the party's Parliamentary Candidate for Harrogate and Knaresborough at the next General Election.

Local members voted to reselect Tom due to his “record of delivery and a determination to build on momentum” since his General Election victory.

Tom Gordon MP said:

“It is a huge honour and privilege to be unanimously reselected by local Liberal Democrat members. I am incredibly grateful for their continued trust and support.

“Since being elected, I have worked hard every day to deliver on the promises we made to residents, and we are already seeing real progress.

“I will never take local members or constituents support for granted and work tirelessly to make our area an even better place to live, work and study.”

Since his election, Tom and his team have dealt with more than 12,000 items of constituent casework and correspondence, supporting residents on issues ranging from healthcare and housing to immigration, benefits and local services.

Among the key achievements highlighted was Tom’s meeting with the Skills Minister to secure funding for the rebuild of Harrogate College, a major boost for students, staff and the local economy.

Tom has also used his platform in Parliament to shine a spotlight on historic and ongoing local healthcare concerns.

During Prime Minister’s Questions, he called for an inquiry into local mental health services.

That inquiry is now underway, marking a significant step forward in addressing long-standing concerns raised by residents and healthcare campaigners.

He has also been leading the fight to hold Yorkshire Water to account over the ongoing sewage scandal and sharp price hikes facing local residents.

He has pledged to keep up the pressure until customers see meaningful improvements in environmental standards, transparency and fair pricing.

He added:

“From fighting for investment in our college to pushing for accountability and improvements in local mental health services, and standing up to Yorkshire Water over sewage dumping and unfair bill increases, I am determined to continue being a strong voice and stand up for Harrogate and Knaresborough.

“This is about delivering real change locally, not just making promises.”

The re-selection comes as the local Liberal Democrats continue to build on their General Election success.

In the recent Harrogate Town Council elections, the party won 15 out of 19 seats, underlining growing support across the area.

Looking ahead to next year’s local elections, Tom and the local Liberal Democrat team say they are determined to go further.

He said:

“We’ve built real momentum since the General Election, and we are not slowing down. Next year, we want to make Harrogate and Knaresborough a Conservative free zone.

“Residents deserve hardworking local champions focused on our community, and that is exactly what Liberal Democrats are delivering.”
