The Harrogate care home taking residents on a trip down memory lane

Berwick Grange residents on their trip to York's Railway Museum.

Residents at a Harrogate home went on a trip down memory lane on a recent trip to York's national railway museum.

Six residents from MHA Berwick Grange were accompanied by three staff members and a resident's family member to the national railway museum in York.

The group of 10 made the short trip to York which took around 45 minutes.

MHA Berwick Grange provides residential dementia and nursing dementia care for 52 residents.

Jaydee Blackett, activity coordinator at the home and one of the staff members who was part of the trip said:

“Myself and Megan, the other activity coordinator at the home are always keen to arrange trips for our residents and are looking to arrange at least one or two a month.

“For this trip it was Megan who arranged it and it was something she mentioned in a residents meeting, and we managed to get some good interest.

“Our residents had a wonderful time stepping back in time and exploring the incredible history of trains.

“They were familiar with some of the trains from their childhood, so it was nice for them to go back in time."

She added:

“We sat in a bullet train which they really enjoyed, and it was a very nice day out for them.

“They took in the facts and information that was presented to us and some of our residents are still talking about the trip.

“As mentioned before, we are planning several trips including one to the seaside now the weather is hopefully improving.”
