North Yorkshire Police say a silver 4x4 was taken from the driveway of a property near Hardsity Hill at around 7.55pm on Tuesday, 3rd March.
Officers report that three suspects left the scene in the vehicle before it was involved in a collision nearby, approximately 10 minutes later.
A 24-year-old man from Bradford was arrested at the scene on suspicion of vehicle theft and remains in custody for questioning.
Enquiries are continuing to locate two other men who are believed to have left the area in a separate vehicle, heading towards Skipton on the A59.
Police are asking anyone who may have information, CCTV or dashcam footage, or who noticed any suspicious activity in the area on Tuesday evening, to come forward.
