Rossett School is set to plant more than 300 trees throughout its grounds thanks to a successful application to the Woodland Trust.
Over the next two weeks, students from Years 7 to 12, supported by staff, will be planting 345 saplings, creating a “greener and more inviting environment for generations to come.”
This initiative is part of Rossett School’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness and sustainability among its students.
Each planting area will be dedicated to a specific year group, ensuring that every student has a “lasting connection to the school’s natural landscape.”
The aim of the legacy project is to not only improve the school’s green spaces, but also serve as an educational tool to engage students in the importance of ecology and conservation.

The project has been guided by Dr. Jenny Hayward, a renowned plant scientist and ecologist specialising in land management and nature conservation.
The school said her meticulous planning and expertise have been "invaluable" in ensuring the successful implementation of this and other similar initiatives across Red Kite Learning Trust Schools.
Mr Milburn, Headteacher at Rossett School said:
“This tree-planting project is a fantastic way for our students to actively contribute to improving their school environment.
“Not only will it enhance biodiversity and sustainability, but it also fosters a sense of responsibility and pride in our students.
“My thanks go to Dr Hayward for her invaluable advice and support."
Rossett School is a member of Red Kite Learning Trust, a multi-academy Trust of 16 schools.
Rossett said it shares the Trust’s vision of creating “sustainable, nature-rich learning environments” that inspire future generations.
Director of Estates and Sustainability Board Chair for Red Kite Learning Trust, Sam Shuttleworth said:
“Our vision is to create school grounds with thriving habitats and healthy soils that support biodiversity and capture carbon.
“We believe in empowering young people to make informed decisions and drive meaningful change, giving them a sense of agency and a deeper connection to the natural world.
“We are immensely grateful to the students and staff at Rossett School for their dedication to this initiative.
“Their passion and commitment exemplify the school’s whole-community approach to environmental stewardship and will play a vital role in advancing our Trust’s sustainability goals."
