Ripon pub team to tackle 1,300-mile banger rally

A team from The One Eyed Rat are taking part in The Rat Run.

A team representing a Ripon pub will attempt to drive two £600 cars around 1,300 miles to Benidorm for charity.

Scott Moon and four other team members from The One Eyed Rat are taking part in The Rat Run, a national rally involving around 200 cars.

The challenge will see entrants travel from Dover to Benidorm via Rouen, Bordeaux and Zaragoza, completing challenges along the way.

Cars taking part must have cost no more than £600.

The One Eyed Rat is sponsoring two cars and paying all expenses, allowing the money raised to be divided between Community Link, Friends of Spa Gardens and Prostate Cancer UK.

Community Link runs Ripon’s Walled Garden, while Friends of Spa Gardens organises the city’s annual Winter Wonderland event.

One car will be decorated as a rat, while the second is being covered in One Eyed Rat stickers and spray-painted in bright colours.

A pay-what-you-want pie and pea evening and prize draw will be held at the pub on Sunday 6th September.

The team has also raised more than £1,200 towards its £2,000 target through an online fundraising page.

The cars will depart from outside The One Eyed Rat at lunchtime on Monday 7th September before heading to Dover for the start of the rally.
