A pub near Knaresborough has been named among Britain’s 100 best pubs by The Good Food Guide.
The General Tarleton in Ferrensby features at number 55 on the guide’s 2026 list, published on Monday (2nd November).
The former coaching inn, located between Knaresborough and Boroughbridge, is part of Tommy Banks’ Jeopardy Hospitality group and was its first restoration project.
The guide praised the pub’s refurbishment, food and welcoming surroundings, awarding it an overall rating of ‘Good’.
Its review highlighted the traditional bar, featuring oak tables and Windsor chairs, alongside a bright atrium dining space and a “delightful new terrace”.

The menu was described as “diverse and enticing”, with the twice-baked cheese soufflé singled out as a star attraction.
Other dishes highlighted included bavette steak with bone marrow sauce, braised lamb shoulder, pies and the GT cheeseburger.
The guide also praised the care taken over dishes including barbecue monkfish with squash, cavolo nero and vadouvan sauce, alongside a green-cardamom crème brûlée with damson and nashi pear.
Reviewers said:
“This is elevated pub cooking, so don’t expect average pub prices, but there's also a terrific-value three-course set menu most sessions.”
The pub’s drinks offering also received recognition, with Yorkshire ales available in the bar and a strong selection of wines by the glass.
Alongside its overall rating, The General Tarleton was rated ‘Good’ for uniqueness, deliciousness, warmth and strength of recommendation.
