A new hearing service has opened at Specsavers in Ripon.
The hearing hub launched today (Monday 2nd November), offering free hearing checks, hearing device fittings and maintenance, and wax removal.
The team will celebrate the opening on Thursday 5th November from 10am to 3pm, with residents invited to enjoy giveaways, baked treats and a display of vintage tractors.
According to the store, limited local provision has meant some residents previously had to travel to Harrogate or wait for NHS care at their local hospital.
Two new team members have joined the locally owned store as part of the launch.
Audiology director Phillippa Hurdley recently completed a Master’s in Hearing Therapy, specialising in tinnitus, vertigo and auditory processing disorder. Audiology practitioner Kirsty Shewan will lead on wax removal.
Phillippa said:
“We’re really pleased to announce the launch of the Hearing Hub. Opening our service here means people no longer need to travel outside the city to get the help they need.
"It will provide a one-stop shop for hearing care, making services more accessible to the local community.”
The team also plans to introduce tinnitus consultations and is exploring further services linked to Phillippa’s hearing therapy qualification.
Phillippa, who has worn hearing devices since she was 14, added:
“Having worn hearing devices since I was 14, I understand how hearing affects everyday life, from confidence and communication to relationships.
"I know how important it is to feel heard and understood, and I want everyone to receive the same empathy and reassurance.”
The hearing hub will initially operate five days a week, increasing to seven days when fully operational.
