Two Knaresborough sports clubs have announced a new partnership to strengthen local sport and benefit the wider community.
Knaresborough Cricket Club (KCC) and Knaresborough Town Football Club (KTFC) will work together to share ideas, explore joint opportunities and encourage greater participation in sport.
Both clubs will retain their own identities and sporting objectives.
Andrew Ward, Cricket Chairman at KCC, said:
“This relationship with KTFC makes perfect sense for the town of Knaresborough. We both have ambitions to make our clubs stronger and to play a key role in the local community.
“By working together, we can explore opportunities that benefit both organisations, bring people together and help ensure that local sport continues to flourish.”
KCC competes in the Premier League of Yorkshire Premier League North, having secured two promotions in the past five years.
Its junior section includes more than 160 boys and girls, with opportunities ranging from All Stars Cricket through to Under-18s.
The club also runs three Saturday teams, a midweek team, a ladies’ team and a walking cricket team.
Its Aspin Lane ground hosts local organisations and activities, including Striders Running Club, the Women’s Institute, darts and table tennis. The club also organises an annual fireworks display and New Year’s Day Duck Race.
KTFC, which plays at Manse Lane, competes in the NCEL Premier Division and also operates reserve and women’s teams.
Rob Northfield and Neil Reaney joined as Joint Managing Directors in 2026, with ambitions to develop the club both on and off the pitch.
The football club recently signed former Leeds United professional Ross McCormack and is looking to expand its community involvement, including opportunities for young people, women and girls.
Rob Northfield, Joint Managing Director at KTFC, said:
“Since joining KTFC in June, we have already made encouraging progress, and we are excited about what the future holds.
“Teaming up with KCC is a fantastic opportunity for Knaresborough. We have two great sporting clubs with proud histories, strong community connections and ambitions to achieve even more.
“We believe that by working together, sharing knowledge and supporting each other, we can create opportunities that benefit both clubs and the wider town. This is about more than cricket and football; it is about community, participation, creating opportunities and giving people something to be proud of.
“We look forward to developing this relationship and exploring how we can make a real difference together.”
The clubs hope the partnership will lead to shared initiatives involving players, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and community organisations.
