A new specialist dementia day care club is set to open in Follifoot next month.
The Rainbow Care Group will be launching the new club at Follifoot Riding School, with an open day taking place on Monday 17th June between 11am and 2pm.
The club is aimed at people living with dementia and their loved ones.
The Rainbow Care Group is also looking to host outdoor tea parties in the venue's viewing shed, running animal-based activities and walks around the stables to pet the horses.
Debbie Cheetham, Community Engagement Lead at Rainbow Care Group, said:
“We already run several award-winning clubs in the local community.
“Sadly, due to the enormity of the dementia epidemic we face, we need to open more clubs to accommodate local people who are living with dementia.
“The positive news however is that we have lots of fun in the process!
“We try to find niche and unlikely locations for our clubs to offer our members a special and meaningful day out when they attend one of our clubs.”
Clubs are currently held in Knaresborough, Headingley, Sicklinghall, Wetherby, Ripon and Otley.
Debbie added:
“Follifoot Riding School already runs riding for the disabled and even had two mechanical horses and a winch to assist those with mobility issued to mount a horse.
“We hope to get some of our members involved in this.”
