Newby Hall's popular Apple Throwing Championships will return as part of its final event of the 2026 season.
Apple Day will take place on Sunday 27th September, featuring apple pressing, cider tasting, live entertainment and the World Jam Festival and Awards.
The Apple Throwing Championships will run from 1pm until 3pm, challenging competitors to launch an apple across the River Ure.
Those recording the longest distances will qualify for the grand finale at 3:30pm and compete for the championship trophy.
Last year’s winner, Lucas Robinson from Workington, secured the title with a throw of more than 80 metres.
Visitors will also be able to see heritage apple varieties grown in Newby Hall’s orchards, which are home to more than 50 varieties, some dating back to the 1880s.
Head Gardener Lawrence Wright said the warm and dry summer had produced a smaller crop with “excellent concentrated flavour” but less juice.
He said windfall apples also help feed wildlife across the estate, including fieldfares and other migratory birds.
The World Jam Festival and Awards will return after receiving more than 200 entries from countries including Australia and Brazil last year.
Michelin-starred chef Andrew Pern will lead the judging across categories including jams, preserves, chutneys, relishes, pickles, curds and fruit butters.
The winner of the Best in Show trophy will also have the opportunity to have their entry stocked in Newby Hall’s shop.
Entertainment will include performances from Harrogate Spa Town Ukes and Beijing-based dancer Yulin Luo, alongside a Best Hat competition judged by the Mad Hatter.

Tickets also include access to Newby Hall, its gardens, adventure playground, miniature railway and permanent exhibitions.
