Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Tom Gordon has vowed to continue campaigning for dignity and choice at the end of life.
His comments follow a narrow House of Commons vote against the progression of the Assisted Dying Bill.
Following the result, the Liberal Democrat MP joined fellow politicians and campaigners on Parliament Green.
Tom said the defeat did not mark the end of the campaign, with an amended version of the Bill able to return to Parliament in the future.
Speaking alongside Liberal Democrat MPs Vikki Slade and Freddie van Mierlo, he said:
“This is a conversation that is going in one direction around the world: towards giving people autonomous choice.”
Tom stressed that the national debate around assisted dying had not begun with the Bill currently before Parliament.
He added:
“This is a conversation we’ve been having as a country for generations.”
Freddie van Mierlo said:
“It’s not the end. The campaign continues.”
