A Ripon woman who overcame life-changing injuries to complete a demanding charity challenge has been nominated for a Yorkshire Choice Award, recognising her courage.
Lucie Maguire has been shortlisted for The Rob Burrow Outstanding Courage Award at the 2026 Yorkshire Choice Awards.
The nomination follows a fundraising challenge completed by Lucie in Whitby, where she climbed the town’s historic 199 steps to St Mary’s Church to mark the fifth anniversary of a serious accident.
In January 2021, she was run over by a tractor while helping her mother from a broken-down car on a country lane near Ripon, resulting in the amputation of her right leg and pelvis.

Despite heavy rain and strong winds, the 24-year-old completed the climb with support from family and friends.
The challenge, described as a “hop to the top”, raised over £10,000 for Day One Trauma Support, a charity that provided assistance to Lucie and her family during her recovery.
A spokesperson for Day One Trauma Support said:
"We think Lucie is such an inspiration, especially after she completed her recent 199 step challenge in Whitby five years after she experienced life-changing injuries.
"It would be amazing if she were recognised for her incredible achievements and courage, so we want as many people as possible to vote for her!"
The steps, which date back to at least the 14th century, lead up to St Mary’s Church and the ruins of Whitby Abbey.
Lucie said her aim was simply to reach the top, regardless of how long it took, adding that completing the climb in under an hour exceeded her expectations.

The challenge also marked the furthest distance she had travelled without using a wheelchair.
She told Your Harrogate:
"I wanted to turn such an awful memory into a positive and something that will bring light for everyone in my family and really turn away from the negative, and it kind of closes a chapter in my life - I'm not going to say I'm done being that person, but, there's an old Lucie who needed that."
Lucie spent 518 days in hospital following the accident, much of that time on a major trauma ward, and has continued her recovery through further surgery and specialist rehabilitation over the past three years.
Public voting is now open for the Yorkshire Choice Awards. Votes can be cast online at https://www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk/vote, including for Day One Trauma Support in the Charitable Excellence Award category.
