Harrogate nursery praised as children 'absolutely flourish' in inspection

A Harrogate nursery has received strong ratings across the board in its latest quality assurance inspection.

Oak Meadow Montessori in Bishop Thornton was inspected by Suffolk Childcare Agency (SCA) on 9th July and was awarded a ‘Strong standard’ for safeguarding, inclusion, curriculum and teaching, achievement, behaviour and routines, children’s welfare and wellbeing, and leadership and governance.

The terminology follows changes to the inspection framework, replacing the previous grading system under which Oak Meadow Montessori had been rated ‘Outstanding’ in October 2024.

Inspectors said children “absolutely flourish” at the setting and described it as “highly nurturing and inclusive”, with children feeling “safe, valued and emotionally secure”.

The report added:

“Children achieve remarkably well from their varied starting points becoming curious, independent learners who confidently explore, ask questions and solve problems.”

Parents also described Oak Meadow Montessori as “invaluable” and “exceptional”, praising the personalised support provided to children.

Inclusion was highlighted as a particular strength, with inspectors praising the support given to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The report said staff “work tirelessly” to secure appropriate intervention and funding, adding that all children, including those facing barriers to learning, are “supported remarkably well”.

Teaching was described as being of an “exceptionally high quality”, combining outdoor education with Montessori practice and a child-led curriculum.

Inspectors were also particularly complimentary about the management of the setting, describing its leadership and governance as “inspirational” and “worthy of being shared within the sector”.

Oak Meadow Montessori currently has 89 children on its roll.
