A Harrogate man is set to run this year’s Great North Run dressed as a dinosaur for a charity close to his heart.
51-year-old Andy Laverick will be taking on his 16th Great North Run to fundraise for JDRF - a charity seeking a cure and research treatment for Type 1 diabetes.
And Andy, who is a member of running group Harrogate Harriers, will be suiting up as a T-Rex for the 13.1-mile race.
Andy’s daughter, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2019.
He said:
“Having a child with Type 1 affects the whole family, with Elizabeth requiring daily insulin injections alongside insulin with food.
“Every day is a balancing act, with the lethal risk of low blood sugar levels alongside both short and long term risks from high blood sugar levels.”
Harrogate Harriers fully support Andy’s efforts and organised a ‘Handicap Race’ before the Great North Run.
Andy set off first, with the rest of the Harriers released in order of ability, with the aim to “catch the dinosaur.”
