Five men are due to appear in court today (Wednesday) after they were arrested accused of stealing commercial vehicles near Harrogate.
At around 4:40am in the early hours yesterday (4th November), police received a report that two vehicles had been stolen from a commercial premises in the Harrogate area.
They quickly located one of the vehicles, a large lorry travelling in convoy with a car along the A59 and heading towards Skipton.
Officers followed the vehicles and one of their advanced drivers got in position between the lorry and the car while another got behind the car.
The lorry was brought to a stop in the village of Addingham, and the suspect ran off, however, he was quickly tracked by Police Dog Rhun arrested.
In the meantime the car had been intercepted and stopped by more officers and the three men inside were all arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.
A fifth suspect was arrested later that day thanks to residents who became suspicious of a man trying to get a lift out of the area.
All five suspects, who are from the Leeds area and aged between 30 and 47, have been charged with two counts of vehicle theft and one of burglary.
The occupant and driver of the lorry was also charged with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
They were all remanded in custody and are due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court today.
Both vehicles have been recovered.
