York’s popular Yorktoberfest is returning this autumn with a brand-new Big Top set to transform York Racecourse into a Bavarian beer hall.
The traditional beer festival will return to the Clocktower Enclosure for its sixth year, taking place across two weekends in October.
The event will run on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th October, followed by Friday 23th and Saturday 24th October.
For the first time, Yorktoberfest will be held inside a blue Big Top, which organisers say will create a new atmosphere for the festival.
Inside, visitors can expect themed German décor, rows of tables and benches, two performance stages, wooden beer barrels and German-inspired food and drink.
Tickets will remain at last year’s prices, with standard tickets costing £25 and VIP tickets £35.
Organiser James Cundall, CEO of Jamboree Entertainment, said the Big Top would make the event “unique and unforgettable”.
He said:
“Big Tops always bring a super-charged vibe to any event, and the space inside this structure will make our live music and outrageous entertainment even more thrilling.”
Entertainment will include the internationally acclaimed seven-piece live band The Bavarian Strollers, who will perform traditional oompah tunes alongside disco classics.
International drag artist Velma Celli will also return following her previous appearances at Yorktoberfest, bringing live vocals and comedy to the festival.
Organisers are also planning additional circus-themed entertainment to fit with this year’s Big Top setting, with further details to be announced.
Visitors are encouraged to embrace the Bavarian theme, with traditional dress and fancy dress both welcomed.
There will also be competitions for the best dressed.
The Bavarian Bar will serve beers from local supplier Brew York, alongside wine, prosecco, spirits, zero-alcohol beers and soft drinks.
Food will be available from The Dog Haus, with German-inspired favourites including sausages, schnitzels and pretzels, alongside vegan and vegetarian options.
Friday and Saturday evening sessions will run from 7pm until 11pm, while Saturday daytime sessions will take place from 1pm until 5pm.
VIP tickets include table service and reserved seating close to the main stage, while standard individual seats are unreserved. Standard tables of six can also be reserved.
Tickets are available online, with prices starting from £25 per person.
