A new Wickes store has officially opened on Ripon Road in Harrogate today (Wednesday).

The Mayor of Harrogate, Cllr Viv Poskitt, joined the team to mark the opening at Plantation House.

The 15,000 sq ft store combines a DIY and trade retail area with a kitchen and bathroom showroom.

Kate Thompson, Head of Property at Wickes, said:

"We're delighted to open our new store in Harrogate, bringing trusted home improvement products and expert advice to the local community.

"Our new small format store has been designed to make the most of the space, with a dedicated Kitchen and Bathroom showroom to help customers find inspiration and plan their projects with confidence.

"We're also pleased to welcome 21 colleagues to the team and look forward to supporting local homeowners and trade professionals with their home improvement projects."

During her visit, Mayor Viv Poskitt met staff and toured the new premises.

A spokesperson for Harrogate Town Council said:

“The Mayor met with members of the Wickes team, toured the new store and congratulated everyone involved in bringing this investment to Harrogate.

“We wish the team every success in their new location and thank them for their warm welcome.”

Alongside the opening, Wickes has launched its Community Programme in Harrogate, supporting local charities and community organisations through donations of tools and building materials.

Its first local partnership is with Mind Harrogate, which will receive supplies to create a partitioned corridor at its premises.

The improvement will allow visitors to access toilet facilities without interrupting counselling sessions, helping to protect client confidentiality and enabling the charity to provide more one-to-one mental health support.

The store occupies the former Magnet premises, with Wickes having submitted plans earlier this year to refurbish the building and alter its mezzanine floor.
