Weekly community choir coming to Harrogate

Local Vocals will meet every week at St Wilfrid's Church.

A new community choir is opening in Harrogate and inviting singers of all abilities to get involved.

Local Vocals will meet every Wednesday from 7.30pm until 9pm at St Wilfrid’s Church on Duchy Road.

The sessions will be led by choir leader Ben and are open to anyone aged over 16.

No auditions, previous singing experience or ability to read music are required.

Members will learn uplifting songs in four-part harmony, meet other singers and have the opportunity to perform at festivals, stadiums, cathedrals and community events.

The choir’s repertoire features songs by artists including Oasis, Adele, Take That, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake and The Human League.

A Local Vocals member said:

“I never thought I’d join a choir — I thought it was just for people with perfect voices, but Local Vocals changed that.

“It’s a warm, fun community where everyone’s welcome and you don’t need a great voice to enjoy yourself. I’m so glad I gave it a go!”

Local Vocals was established in 2021 by Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts graduate Laura Bennett-Gornall.

The organisation now runs 44 choirs across the north of England and has raised more than £80,000 for local charities.

Its recent performances at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall attracted two audiences of 1,800 people and raised more than £23,000 for North West Cancer Research.
